Yusen Logistics (Yusen) was responsible for the international transportation of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine provided to Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia through the Japanese government, from Japan to each country and region.

Yusen Logistics has invested heavily over the past 20 years in developing specialist new services and resources in the global healthcare supply chain. As a result, it meets a broad range of needs with safe and high-quality services that meet global standards.

Yusen has established pharmaceutical specialist teams in Japan, the Americas, Europe, East Asia, South Asia, and Oceania to strengthen healthcare and pharmaceutical logistics globally.

In 2016, Yusen Logistics (Benelux) B.V. became the first Japanese air freight forwarder at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to be awarded the prestigious IATA-CEIV Pharma certification. In Asia, PT. Yusen Logistics Indonesia became the first logistics business in Indonesia to acquire GDP certification at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in 2016.

In Japan, Yusen was the first Japanese air freight forwarder at Kansai International Airport to acquire IATA-CEIV Pharma certification in 2018 and acquired CEIV Pharma certification at Narita International Airport in 2021.

In addition, the group is expanding operation bases complying with GDP in each country to build a network of high-quality pharmaceutical logistics services that meet consistent standards and assure product integrity. Currently, 39 operation bases in 24 countries and regions worldwide comply with its global GDP standards.

In the transportation of healthcare products, including this transportation of the COVID-19 vaccine, Yusen has prepared several backup plans that guarantee quality handling of the payloads and has formulated the optimal plan after carrying out route risk assessments to mitigate any future risks it may foresee.

As this vaccine is required to maintain a temperature of 2–8°C, Yusen realised safe and reliable transportation to each country and region through cooperation with partner companies.

Yusen will continue to prioritise ensuring the safety of healthcare products with quality-first services through appropriate transportation by meeting compliance regulations of each country.
