Volga-Dnepr Group subsidiary, AirBridgeCargo Airlines, recently completed the delivery of nine show horses from Moscow to Amsterdam on-board a Boeing 747-8F scheduled flight, the horses were taking part in Dressage competition.

The ‘ABC care’ team of the airline carefully managed each step of transportation with the well-being of the animals as the main priority. To make the project a success, any waiting periods were kept to an absolute minimum. Live animal transportation experts from ABC ensured before-the-flight standard procedures were kept as short a possible and created the perfect environmental conditions for the duration of the flight.

Tatyana Kosterina who was riding the 11-year-old Diavolessa VA said, “It is a great experience to be flying to another country with your horse being your ‘fellow passenger’, with the possibility to check on the horse during the flight, feed and water it if needed. Air transportation is the preferable way of journey, as we cover the distance within several hours, and my horse does not experience car sickness, as is the case with vehicle transportation.

After several adaptation days, we were able to take part in the completion winning the second place.”

Evgeniya Davydova, a colleague of Ms. Kosterina, added, “With horses being very emotional and sensitive to stressful factors, we were lucky that these waiting periods were minimized and my 14-year-old Awakening demonstrated good results during competition.”

AirBridgeCargo Airlines Deputy General Director, Special products and services, Fedor Novikov commented, “Equine transportation stands apart from other animals transportations as we are dealing with precious animals whose well-being and comfort influence sports success. We are honored to be entrusted with the delivery of these horses. Our dedicated ‘ABC care’ team with well-set operational processes in place guaranteed safe journey of animals which partially facilitated their sports results.”

As a result of the development of new technologies coupled with the introduction of more sophisticated aircraft, the air cargo industry is becoming the preferred mode of transport for live animals.
